Step 1: Start watching anime.

Done and done, officially six months in the making, though by now I realize I’ve been watching anime informally ever since I was a wee lad. I do wonder if I’ll ever become another jaded, sneering anime fanboy always declaring, “Been there, done that.”

Feel free to pull a Kamina and punch the stupid outta me if I ever do.

Step 2: Write my own anime blog.

Check. Else you wouldn’t be reading this, and I wouldn’t be having so much fun! This blog has accumulated a few thousand hits in the month and a half since I debuted it. Color me tickled pink! Thank you for visiting, commenting, and pumping my ego. I hereby promise to never stick to a schedule or turn boring.

Step 3: Become a fanboy.

Check. Photographic evidence:

HARE HARE YUKAI

Picture me in awe, pawing at it the way the proto-humans of 2001: A Space Odyssey caressed the alien black monolith. Haruhi‘s as good a place as any to start an anime DVD collection, I reckon, although I am a bit disappointed that the box didn’t contain a Mikuru-chan hugging pillow. Methinks a Saturday Haruhi marathon is on the horizon… I may even *gasp* give the dub a try.

And so begins my quest to repay the anime industry for helping me break out of a bout of major depression and for entertaining me without interruption ever since. Here’s to many years of me shelling out my hard-earned dollars so you guys can continue to draw bouncing tits and space stations exploding! Domo arigato gozaimasu. Shinkuru eki? Asoko de!

Step 4: Cosplay.

Uhhhh… I have almost a full year until the next Otakuthon, so we’ll let this one simmer for a while. Already have a few costume ideas however…

Review: Kaiba

Faster than a speeding bullet, here I come, bearing a Kaiba review hot on the heels of its last episode! I won’t mince words: this was my favorite TV series so far this year, an emotional rollercoaster set in a dystopian animated future. Want to know more? You know what to do!

Read the entire Kaiba review here!

The week’s biggest news I won’t be discussing (yet) is that Kaiba has ended. My mind refuses to acknowledge that the show spanned a mere 12 episodes over three months; somehow, it feels as if I’ve always been watching Kaiba, as if its twisted world has always existed and will continue to exist, in its own dimensional bubble, for as long as I watch anime. Strange, I know. Look for the complete review (and perhaps a spoiler-laden “post-mortem” entry) in the upcoming days.

Obligatory public service announcement over. Now then. Let’s get to the tits and the catgirls, shall we?

Wednesday’s been Koihime Musou night thus far, but bleh, this week brought us an uninspiring episode not even worth discussing. Lu Bu’s first appearance didn’t even raise my pulse an iota. Oh, and Red Hare? He’s a puppy now. A puppy that a loli Dong Zhuo saves from a falling tree.

Right. So.

Instead of wasting my time and trying to yet again screen cap all the panty shots I’ll discuss a show I really like instead. Which O which show could it be? Take a wild guess!

The big way, the big Hokkaido!

A quick note about the iPod Nano

As I feared, my program to convert movie files for my Nano choked on the fourth episode of Someday’s Dreamers, which I downloaded in MKV format, and coughed up a file with no subtitles and desynched audio. Gonna have to stick with Xvid and MP4 releases. Hard-subbed of course. If you do know of a program that can deal with MKV, please let me know!

Also, the Boss headphones worked wonders and alleviated the pain of having my ear holes violated by the Nano’s original earplugs, even though I drew a lot more curious looks on the subway. In hindsight murmuring half-baked Japanese phrases as I listened to Pimsleur’s Japanese might have had something to do with it too. Oh well.

At least I got cupcakes today! (From my friend Lauren, the one who recruited me on the spot at Otakuthon 2008. All is forgiven! Chocolate washes all sins away.)

Yesterday I received a third-generation iPod Nano from my sister as a late birthday present. I feel like an hypocrite, since I’d decried the wastefulness of MP3 players, cell phones, and other gadgets to a friend mere days ago, but… Iz so shiny!

“And it can play videos too,” my sister said as she handed it to me.

You don’t say…

Five minutes of Google-fu brought me a nifty program that can make any movie file iPod-comestible, and thus it is armed with the latest Code Geass episode (what else?) and episode 02 of Birdy Decode that I braved this morning’s 40-minute public transit commute to work. Bringing anime to the masses, that’s me!
